Behind the Scenes

What can I say about last week?

It's a dream I didn't know I had.

If you'd asked me at age 21 if I would film Bible studies for women, I'm pretty sure I would have laughed at you. It's good God does one thing at a time.

I'm going to tell you something I said in my intro video: I'm not qualified for this. I don't know everything about prayer (that's what my new book is about). What I do know is how to be needy. I know how to be at the end of myself. I know how to need help and still feel ashamed to ask for it. I know how to feel like I am too much and not enough at the same time.

Have you felt like that? Those feelings of neediness have taught me prayer. I'm never too much for God and He has enough for me always. I learned prayer by praying. That desire for others to get the gift that prayer is and understand how the relationship it builds with God can fuel their life led me to write.

What is something you feel totally unqualified to do, but you've also felt the tug at your heart? Don't be scared. If it's a dream God gave you, it won't fail. It may not look at the end like what you expected, but it won't fail because He won't. It won't look just like my dream or your friends. Don't be afraid to follow Him. (Disclaimer: this does not mean that you won't feel scared at times.)

I'm excited to watch what God does, and in my hotel room in Nashville I poured that excitement out to God.

Steal this prayer:

Please do beautiful things with what you set in motion. Help me set my expectation on You. Just You. Let Your name and Your renown be the desire of my soul (Isaiah 26:8). This won't bear any fruit if I am not abiding in You because apart from you I can do nothing (John 15). It is You who multiply the seed for sowing and the harvest ( 2 Corinthians 10).

If you are interested in knowing more about my book, I put links for pre-order below.

A six-week guide to a deeper and more joy-filled prayer life, Steadfast through Psalms guides us in prayer journaling, praying Scripture, and pouring out our hearts to God as David did.

We often think of prayer as a last resort for a problem rather than a beautiful way to anchor ourselves in God’s heart. In fact, as Lauren Mitchell reminds us in this in-depth look at David’s psalms, prayer is not something that enhances our spiritual life; prayer enables it.
